About Andromeda

The Andromeda Galaxy is the closest large galaxy to the Milky Way Galaxy and is one of the most recognizable features pictured in the universe. "Closest" is a relative term, as Andromeda is about 2.5 million light-years away. Although Andromeda is 1.5 times bigger than the Milky Way, it is visible to the naked eye only in a moderately dark sky which is only available these days in small towns and isolated areas, relatively far away from sources of light pollution. Andromeda appears quite small, due to the fact that only the center part is bright enough to be seen. If the entire Galaxy were visible it would appear roughly the same size as a full moon. In the next 3 billion years, the amount of Andromeda visible to the plain eye will grow, as it is hurtling towards the Milky Way at a speed of about 186 miles per second. When these two colossal star groups collide and form a new gigantic elliptical galaxy, it will be a testament to the will of nature that extends far from our own earth and a huge reminder that the universe is forever changing.

We chose the name Andromeda for our company because it represents several ideas that drive our corporate philosophy. Andromeda represents an object that is easily recognized but that challenges us to learn more about it by pushing the limits of our current technology and our understanding of the universe. It also challenges us to think in terms much larger than we are used to - outside the norm or to paraphrase a cliché – “outside the box.” It signifies that change is inevitable and that change can sometimes have an enormous impact on our small comfortable world. At ASI, we wanted to portray an image that is easily recognizable but that also evokes a vision of future, exploration, the expansion of technology, and of providing solutions beyond the norm. We also want to convey that we recognize change is happening, sometimes at light speed, and that we embrace change and will use it to our own and our customer’s advantage.

In essence ASI is named after a magnificent place in the universe which will, someday, reveal secrets unimaginable to conventional thought.
